I never realized how important my union was until I lost it.

I started my career at Northwest in 2007, and I flew under a contract and AFA protection until we lost our union in November of 2010.

At the time, Delta told us, “Give it a year, and you won’t want your union back.”

A contract is about putting maximum control and flexibility in the hands of us as Flight Attendants, not management.

“I could see maybe some things that I thought weren’t right, but I was willing to overlook them because I thought things were so good. And those are things that I’m not willing to overlook anymore.”

Earlier this year, I was scheduled to work three nights back to back. After the first night, I came home and went straight to bed so I could be fully rested for my next flight.

I’ve been a Delta flight attendant for 4 years, and I’m thrilled to be part of organizing our union.

One of the lies I’ve heard from management over and over is that if we have a union, it will create conflict.

The need is clear. Flight Attendants at Delta shared story after story of outrageous demands by management: people who have been rerouted three times, or calls coming in at 2 and 3 in the morning to move trips up by as much as 12 hours, or Flight Attendants placed in scheduling nightmares after commuter flights are canceled without any support. Other airlines with contracts can’t even contemplate these situations.
