We are here for you
We’re on Day 4 of the CrowdStrike meltdown at Delta and no matter what management tells you, it’s a Delta-only problem. At this point, all other airlines have recovered, but we have 844 cancellations and 1,578 delays and counting today. We’ve heard horror stories about crews being stranded hundreds of miles from their bases, with no accommodations, no money to get hotel rooms, and no ability to get in contact with anyone at Delta to help. These conditions are unacceptable. Period. Delta management constantly tells us that we don’t need a union because they are all we need, and one that persistently crows about their industry-leading on-time performance and profitability.
At our core, Delta AFA is Delta Flight Attendants helping Delta Flight Attendants. The CrowdStrike outage revealed a much bigger problem, and the result is that Delta Flight Attendants are left to problem solve on their own. Even Secretary Buttigieg has called out Delta for stranding passengers too.
We need to take care of each other during this chaotic time because management has proven they won’t. We are here for you — as one crew, not just members of the same work group.
Here are some resources to help you navigate IROPs:
- Contact Base Organizers and Steering Committee Members (see contact information below)
- You can reach AFA’s free and confidential Employment Assistance Program (EAP) hotline anytime at 1-800-424-2406
- Resource: Reroute “rights?” Not exactly.
Despite the chaos, the last few days have shown us what we can accomplish when we come together and call out Delta’s mismanagement. Management offered doubled incentive pay and positive space after we made noise about it.
Securing our union is crucial because a contract will have language that will guide us during chaotic times, rather than be subject to management's whims. Currently, the company is only held accountable by FAA regulations, which are broad and don’t reflect the realities of an operation in meltdown. With our union, we’ll have a legally enforceable contract with IROPs provisions that we — Delta Flight Attendants — negotiate and agree to. Clear and enforceable reroute pay and procedures, hotel requirements, and other work rules don’t just help us, they will require management to plan better for situations like the past 4 days.
IROPs happen. Our union won’t prevent operational issues or management’s bad decisions. However our union contract will protect us when they occur, and give us a bit more certainty when the operation melts down. Sign your AFA card, carry cards for others, and get involved in our campaign to determine our future together.
For all of you who have been impacted, we are here for you. If there is anything we can do to help please reach out. We are stronger together and better together!
In Solidarity,
Delta AFA
