CNCL after check in; now what?

Once we’ve signed in, there should be enforceable work rules, not uncertainty.

If our trip cancels, the company should have a defined amount of time to assign replacement flying. If they don’t, we should be released. If they do assign replacement flying, our original pay should be protected, and there should be limits on what they can assign. If we’re required to remain under company control, that time should be compensated. We shouldn’t be left sitting in limbo for hours, or overnight, without knowing when we’ll be allowed to go home.

This isn’t really about whether someone wants replacement flying or wants to go home. Flight Attendants will prefer different outcomes depending on the situation. The real issue is having predictable, enforceable work rules instead of management discretion due to the “needs of the operation.”

A contract allows everyone to know the rules ahead of time, rather than finding out what happens only after the operation falls apart. Securing our union and negotiating a contract is the ONLY way to have a voice and control over our work lives.
