Remembering Joseph Mendoza
It is with a very heavy heart that we share the passing of Joseph Mendoza, a 27 year Flight Attendant, dear friend, cherished crew member, and strong advocate for Flight Attendants. Joseph passed suddenly last night after checking in to work a trip to South America. He had been based in PDX, but recently transferred to ATL. He also spent many years flying out of NYC and SEA.
Last night Joseph connected with dear friends at the AFA visibility table, stocked up on more supplies and information for our union drive prior to heading upstairs for his flight. In 2009, Joseph served as an AFA Local Council 90 Secretary in Atlanta. His commitment to our rights and voice at work as aviation's first responders has been consistent and long. We will rededicate ourselves to expressing his heart for all of us through our own actions to care of one another.
In honor of Joseph, please wear a black ribbon under your AFA pin and fly always with the spirit of solidarity. As we gain further information from Joseph's family about how to honor and remember him we will share it with all of you.
For those who need support as we take in this sad news, please know that AFA EAP is available to assist you. Call 800-424-2406 to connect with an AFA EAP representative.
