How much are you missing out on holiday pay this year?
Despite working for the most profitable airline, Delta Flight Attendants continue to lose out on compensation in regards to holiday pay. Delta management recognizes seven paid holidays for IFS. Management also determines how holiday pay is calculated.
CHECK OUT THIS JULY 4TH NYC ROTATION:
If you fly on a designated holiday , you'll be paid the greater of EITHER:
the hourly rate outlined in the table below for each flight and/or standby hour and fraction thereof worked on the approved holiday.
OR
- $6.25 per hour for time away from base (TAFB) on the holiday (base local time).
United Flight Attendants negotiated a formula for their holiday pay which is much more rewarding than hours. Their holiday pay is calculated by taking the hourly rate of pay times the credited flight time for the rotation, divided by the number of hours away from home, times the number of hours away from home falling within the holiday. While this may seem like a complicated formula, it results in more holiday pay than what we receive at Delta.

By having a union contract, we can negotiate a more rewarding formula for holiday pay that benefits all Flight Attendants at every step of the pay scale. Having an incentive for more of us to work on holidays would help prevent staffing struggles that continuously disrupt our holiday operations. What’s good for Flight Attendants is good for management.
Unionized Flight Attendants at United, American, Alaska, and Southwest all have contracts which provide formulas for holiday pay ensuring that their pay is a percentage of their hourly rate —not a flat dollar amount. Flight Attendants at these airlines have the ability to earn as much as double (200%) or more the original value of the trip. Some of these airlines even add TAFB over a holiday into the calculation for holiday pay. Depending on the union contract, Flight Attendants may be eligible to earn even higher holiday bonuses for working a trip, or for picking up a trip from open time on applicable days.
With a union, we will have the power to negotiate an equitable holiday pay formula that benefits all of us.
